Choosing the Right Home Decor Products That Fit Your Style

The right home decor products can make your home come alive in color and magnificence. For example, the pattern you choose for walls or window treatments can turn a mediocre experience into an astonishing one. If you really adore a pattern, go with the home decor products you enjoy. The artistic choice is up to you. You could accentuate a lifestyle, an ambiance or certain artistic style you like-there is an abundance of choices to go with. In addition, maybe you want to take up the task of redecorating your home in the Victorian style; those popular gray and white combinations of the later 1800's. Perhaps you want to get rid of common home decor products that may bore you and decorate with unique European influences instead. Turn a normal desk into something more with an English bureau inlaid with a mosaic of intricate wood pieces to add to your decorative effect. Perhaps the beds in your house bore you, so maybe make the beds more dapper by using a Victorian element such as an 18th century gilded French bed with a trundle underneath.
Start decorating your walls with famous volumes of art, which complement your personal style. Take your tables to the extreme with antique Chinese tables, or folksy Dutch chairs. These all add personal extravagance to your home decor. Maybe you own a 1950s ranch house and want to find ways to make it special again. Try working with different home decor products or adding certain ornamental rugs or treatments that accentuate a modern style. Try out contemporary kitchen and bath accessories and home decor products like a newer showerhead or modern light fixtures to accentuate a new style.

Wall Decor - Top 5 Tips on How to Decorate Your Wall

Preparing to decorate your home with the appropriate wall décor and designs can be quite difficult if you don't have the expertise. You will have to choose from a lot of style, material, sizes and much more. Wrong choices can make a space cluttered and messy, while the right decors can provide elegance and style to your wall.
There are pieces of art that bring an atmosphere of joy, tranquility and warmth. You can also put seasonal decors to make your home buddies feel the season. Still, there are pieces of art that can make your room feel like you're out of this world. Whatever you opt to choose to decorate your wall largely depends on your personal choice.
When you run out of ideas, how about these top 5 tips on how to decorate your wall?
Grouping Photographs and other wall decors:
Framed photos, art prints and posters can be hung by grouping them to look professional. It shows unity when you display art prints, photographs and pictures together. Even pictures with different shapes and sizes but having the same frame color and mount will show unity.
It is also very important to hang frames with uniform spacing. The common mistake in hanging frames is to hang them higher than "eye level" of an average person on walls of the hallways or entry ways where people view them while standing. When hanging them in the walls of the living room and dining area, framed displays should be at eye level which is about 6 to 9 inches above the furniture when you're seated.
Dealing with large walls:
The wide space you have to cover makes it a little harder to decorate large walls than smaller ones. When things you hang on the wall are not in proportion, it looks awkward. An effective way to deal with large walls is to hang framed photographs across the wall in several rows arranged in straight line or in any pattern you want.
Using Mirrors and Metal Art:
A mirror can make a room look larger and it can add dimensions. Wall mirrors come in different styles and designs. It is also a good way to decorate your wall with metal arts crafted from brass or silver. These kinds of wall art are unique and not so many people use them.
Tiles are contemporary wall decors:
You can easily buy some pieces of tiles and add your personal artistic touch.
Curtains and shelves:
Curtains are always important to add a warm and cozy look. Curtains enhance the look of the wall. Shelves add beauty when placed across a wall where you can display books and other decors.
You can create your own unique style. Art decors can easily enhance the indoor mood. This is an excellent opportunity to show your personal expression through the decors that you hang on your wall. It can be classic, modern, funny, romantic or contemporary. You'll never be short of choices to make a great looking wall.

Christmas Decorations and a Christmas Wonderland

Christmas decorations will transform your home into a Christmas wonderland if done properly. And you don't need to spend a fortune. All you need is some thought and planning. Christmas decorations, if used correctly indoors and outdoors, can turn your Christmas experience from great to awesome. Here are some tips that my wife and I have used to great effect...
First, you need always to be aware of the dangers that decorations and ornaments pose at Christmas time. How often have we heard or read about fires being caused by decorations catching fire? Too many, that's for sure. So be vigilant.
Never, ever place Christmas decorations, or ornaments, near a fire, flame or any other source of heat. And that goes for your Christmas tree as well. You have to make sure that curtains or drapes can't touch or blow onto your tree. Christmas tree lights can get pretty hot and that can be enough to ignite those drapes. And never use real lighted candles on or near your tree.
Another very important item is the use of electrical ornaments and decorations outside in the yard. Always ensure that they state that they are suitable for outside use. And as with all electrical goods always read and follow the instructions.
When choosing what Christmas decorations you want always consider the look you want to achieve, and, if that 'look' is in keeping with your decor. Everything needs to be in balance. For instance, a room stuffed full of classical Victorian-style decorations and ornaments will just not look right if that room is modern minimalist, and vice-versa. Try to match classical rooms with classical ornaments, decorations and Christmas trees, and, modern decor with modern, lighter decorations and trees.
Many folks seem to have problems dressing their tree(s). It's very easy: start with lights winding them upwards towards the top, then the garlands and then the decorations and ornaments last. At each stage stand back and check for 'balance' and re-adjust where necessary.
At the time of writing this article I am aware that we are pretty near Christmas, so time is short. You really need to order your decorations and ornaments now so as not to be disappointed. The quickest way is online as long as you act today.
For access to a superb range of classical and modern Christmas decorations and ornaments, including Christmas trees and lights, go now to Christmas Decorations & Ornaments and if you act now you can make big savings as well.

Quick Guide to Wall Decor Ideas - Tips and Suggestions to Contemporary Wall Decoration

Great wall decor ideas are often the simplest, painted or treated in some subtly textured form. The key to great wall decoration is to choose the right combination of color, light and texture, taking into account the complex effect of these variables with your furnishing.
One wall decor idea which is simple but gives great visual impact is plaster, trowelled or stucco. Stucco swirls are not easily achieved by the non-professional, but the effect is a dream on expanses of wall and a perfect backdrop to sophisticated texture and color.
However, walls are very personal and a surprising range of contemporary wall decor ideas work well within the same interior. Some suggestions are:
o Stripes - be it horizontal, vertical or slanted, they can be used to create optical interest. For example, broad stripes can make a room's ceiling appear lower while narrow vertical stripes are elongating.
o Cladding - using materials such as fabric, wood and metal, you add a dimension to the wall that invites touch and reflects light in different and intriguing ways.
o Paint - ranging from solid colored feature wall to specialized paint effects to elaborate frescoes, one can always add interesting and personal touches.
o Wallpaper - choosing from traditional paper to contemporary vinyl to the expensive specialty wallpaper, one can create illusion with the interior space while covering hairline cracks on the wall.
o Tiles - a tried-and-tested formula for areas of heavy wear or maximum exposure to water and heat. It is usually recommended to tile an entire feature wall to add texture and dimension to the room.
o Stone - this is making a come-back though designers prefer to marry varied textures e.g. rough against grooved granite.
o Vinyl Text - take your favorite poem or quote and turn it into wall art with cut-out vinyl lettering.

Different Aspects of Viewing Designs in Interior Decoration

The art of decoration involves making designs using motifs or colours on surfaces as well as efficient handling of the design components in a manner that is aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Interior decoration is therefore an aspect of decoration that deals with the total arrangement of things in an apartment (home or office) in order to bring out the interior beauty of a place. This mostly has to do with the interplay of colours to achieve a unique internal appearance of a home or an office. There are basically three prominent ways of viewing colour usage interior decoration. It can be either approached harmoniously, complementarily, and contrastingly.

The popular way which many people approach colours in interior designs is in terms of 'harmony'. Harmony is a term often used to qualify a pleasing combination of colours in a given design. For example, it is common to walk into an office and observe that the curtains, walls, furniture and even the floor of the office are looking green. The green colour may be artistically represented in various shades: light, dark, mid-tone, etc. Or even if the furniture may have a different colour, some green flowering designs or spots may be found on the dominant colour which makes the entire design appealing to view.

In complementary designs however, different colours are used which may not necessarily be of the same origin or background. For example, the combination of red and green or blue and red may be artistically used to achieve a unique design. The word complementary, as understand in design especially in terms of colour, has to do with how best two or more colours can be used to achieve a perfect design. This means that if a dominant colour in a design is getting outrageous, another colour of different background can be effectively used in taming (reducing the off-effect of) the dominant colour.

Another way of considering or viewing colours used in interior decoration is in terms of contrast. In design, contrasting colours can be considered in two ways. The first is an effect created by placing or arranging different things of different colours next to each other. The second is mostly viewed in terms of the difference created between the lightest and the darkest parts of something, for example, like painting, photograph, or television image. The first has to do with the placing objects of different colours at strategic locations within an apartment.

For instance, a black chair is placed next to a drawer of probably cream colour, while frames on the wall take colours that are either darker or lighter than the colour of the wall as the case may be. The unique thing about contrasting design is that dull colours are made shape and very interesting to look at. This mean that, even though one psychologically reacts to a colour, he or she does not see the effect of the colour in a negative way; rather, such a colour is virtually tamed and made to be attractive when combined with other colours to achieve an appealing design.

Decorate Your Room, Yourself

When room furnishing, the important though is all wall decorations and dining room table should compliment other possessions in the room. It is not the decorative piece that decorates the room, every lace or linen, china, glass, silver and each yard of silk or chintz should blend well. Towards effective furnishing, the rug or carpet should be in relation with other pieces of art, it should have that distinct feel of uniformity to provide the right ambience.

The way a room has been interior decorated is evidence of the personality of the individual be it man or woman with subtle hints. If the fundamentals of the art of interior decoration are known than there is no scheme that which makes it a successful or unsuccessful, bad or good one.
And when we enter a room which is not well done up, the rather quaint remark used nowadays is "very amusing".

Some of them are original in color combinations, they make tropical impression or sometimes oriental, is it?
These combinations that which have come through the route of Munich, Bakst, Russia and Martine of Paris, an example is the Rheinhardt's staging of "Sumurun", the shining interiors hit us at an uncommon angle surprising and captivating some among us. In some of the houses the moods gather and spellbound us with their variety of temperament. While few are not the one for being the benchmark but, they have distinction. In any interior furnishing, the two keywords are practicality and appropriateness which make any effort entertaining and new. This is a unique fresh breath when compared to the antique feel in the rooms about ten years back which radiated a general dingy, musky feel, here exaggeration of vibrancy has proved to be an anti-thesis of the issue. These have given rise to a whole range of colors to choose from, basically a 'VIBGYOR" assortment for people with creative and impulsive ideas.

Well, if you have employed the services of a maid, pass careful instructions about the use of the chair or table, the way you have paid attention to minute details of its usage and contrast with the ambience of the room, tell the maid or the members of your family also not to remove to avoid tarnishing the look.
This will be effective for your living room, formal reception room, dining room and personal suite (bedroom, bath and budoir). It is better to keep the wicker basket in the place where you had actually intended it to be, the basket would absolutely ruin the look of your house and cry out for attention for the lack of harmony and intrusion of space. It is therefore important that most of the rooms should be used as often as possible, be it the ballroom, you could use it as a lecture hall or audience room for concerts etc. Provide the room with small movable chairs and tables so as to quickly move to form a decorative part.

Modern Home Decor - How To Get More Space Out Of Less Space

If the interiors in your home has no particular style and you are tired with its outdated looks, its time you give a modern look to your interiors, you may find it tough but it's definitely worth a try.
There are a few things you should keep in mind before you start with your modern home decor.
Modern Home Decor Rule #1: Keeping it to the bare minimum

To give your home a modern decor you could always refer to a fashionable home decor magazine, you will observe that modern home decor is all about using minimum furniture to decorate the room. A modern home should resemble a piece of art created by an artist.
In our present day stressed life one would prefer to come home and relax rather than get more stressed in a house cramped with furniture, more than it can accommodate so the minimalist concept of less furniture more space is used in modern home decors. Your house should resemble an artist's creation with few carefully placed things.

Modern Home Decor Rule #2: Using technology to enhance the rich look.
In modern homes the family room is given the most importance as it is the place of entertainment and social gathering, and when it comes to entertainment the first thing that crosses your mind is the entertainment system and here technology plays a very important role.
A vide range of entertainment systems are available in the market, one can either purchase a Plasma, or flat-screen television set and connect to a DVD / VCD player or can directly purchase a Home theater system. Purchasing plasma or a flat screen is suggested as it occupies very little space.

Modern Home Decor Rule #3: Windows
Modern home decor gives more importance to ventilation so more windows are made, preferably Italian windows (ones that cover the whole wall). The basic idea here is to make the room look spacious. In the absence of windows you could always use curtains of lighter shades, as it would give the same effect.

The basic idea behind giving your home a modern look is to create more space, you could always surf the net to get new ideas or simply refer to fashionable home decor magazines, ultimately the home is yours and the choice is yours.

Whatever your final choice, ensure that you make the room look spacious and soothing. After all, this is what every individual prefers after a hectic day at work. Once this need is satisfied, you can very well add other parameters to your choice and make your home more lively and vibrant.

Add a Home Decor Accessory to Your Room

Even though your room has nicely distributed furniture and everything seems to be in its in place, you might feel there is something missing. Little details do play a major role in home decor - appropriate home decor accessories added tastefully and in accordance with the overall style can greatly enhance the look of your room. Without home decor accessories any room will look lifeless and incomplete. Besides, they can pull the look of a room together.
Many Options to Choose From

Most home decorators are always on the lookout for the perfect home decor accessory to add to bland and uninteresting room. As home decor accessories come in a huge range of choices, you can narrow them down by selecting a theme for your room. Use this theme to determine the color and accessories that would work the most effectively with your selected style. If you decide to add a home decor accessory to your side tables, try to keep the height of the accessory level with your sofa. Small items will not fit the scale of the area, and will not make a dramatic statement on your side tables. Scale is a very important consideration when adding accessories to any piece of furniture, including bookcases, armoires, and even the floor.

An immediate difference can be done by adding some art to the room. You don't want to overwhelm your room with too many pictures, but adding one or two main pieces can transform it to the best. Art home decor accessories can add color and definition to a room by creating a focal point that you can work from. Aligning the artwork with other pieces of varying heights, or grouping together a set of coordinating artwork makes a room come alive. As with any home decor accessory, try to bring your style together by using the colors that you have chosen for your room.

Home Decor Accessories Hunt
If you are wondering where to find perfect home decor accessories, check flea markets for some amazing treasure pieces. Sellers come together to offer their goods, giving you a greater chance to find that special and unique home decor accessory that matches your theme. This is a bargain shopper's dream, since local people sell at flea markets who may not know the value of their belongings. Some consider flea markets to be really large yard sales, but either way you should have no problem finding something fun and inexpensive to add to your collection.
Antique stores also provide an excellent opportunity to find home decor accessories. Of course, they are more expensive than flea markets, but you can purchase items that have history and meaning to them. In antique stores you can find furniture and other items of any era and style - pick up a rare vase, plate, or pillow that will become the specialty of your room, drawing instant attention.

How To Compliment The Primitive Decorating Theme With Charming Accessories

Accessories are the finishing touches of any interior design and will help pull your Primitive decorating theme together. This interior design style works well with primitive, unadorned pieces which help enhance the comfortable and warm sense of warmth and simplicity. Select captivating additions to your decor like wall art, knick-knacks, and pillows that add the finishing touches to your primitive décor to finish the decor.

Wall art adds drama to any design, but you should know how to hang it appropriately for the best effect. When displaying art, think like a gallery and have the center of the piece at eye level. If you have many pieces to use on one wall, lay them out on the floor first to select the best arrangement. To round out your Primitive decorating theme, try displaying folk art in plain frames.

Knick Knacks add charm as well as style to your decorating approach. To add to your primitive country decorating, select knick knacks with a comfortable and warm feel. For a decorative touch try a graduated set of pantry boxes stacked on a table or in the corner or having antique baskets filled with dried flowers. Take the time to select distinct items that really reflect your personality. If you don't have an ample supply of funds, you might want to try shopping at the local flea markets and yard sales where you should be able to find intriguing pieces for little money.

Envision adding vintage signs, folk art, and tramp art for more of a feeling of warmth and simplicity. When buying your decorative pieces, however, you should be certain they are in keeping with the decorating scheme and also have some sort of matching aspects with each other. If you buy accessories in a hurry, then you may end up diluting the look and feel you are attempting to develop.

To add softness as well as benefit your decorating theme, decorative pillows could be a pleasing choice. Pillows add a caring touch and look charming in any room including the kitchen, dining room and bathroom. Pillows will be a suitable compliment to the bedroom when arranged up against the headboard. Pillows can add softness to the bath or kitchen - think about using one on the hamper or on a kitchen chair in a corner. If you can't afford new furniture for your family room or living room, decorative pillows can help give the primitive country decorating look to your old pieces. Add an interesting touch to your decor with pillows that are plain and simple.

Utilizing primitives such as old boxes and baskets can add an inviting look to your Primitive decorating theme. It's critical, however, that you have a vision of the types of pieces you need so you can stick to purchasing exactly those that suit. Size matters, so go around the room and figure out the size of rugs, lamps, wall art and accessories you would like and buy accordingly. If you decorate with these rules, you'll be able to decorate your space with decorative pieces that look appealing with each other.

Decorative Outdoor Lighting Effects to Turn Your Landscaping Into Something Special

Doing decorative outdoor lighting, you're allowed a canvas that you can get very creative with. You can create effects that range from the totally dramatic to the barely noticeable. Lighting can create romantic effects, fairyland effects, and anything else that you choose. And decorative outdoor lighting plans can make use of the landscaping around as well as different kinds of lights to create a beautiful effect of light and shadow that can really add to the beauty that the architecture and landscaping of a property possessed to begin with.

Let's start off with accent lighting. These are little umbrella shaped lights that allow you to emphasize certain places and light other places up for functional reasons. If you could place a number of these along the garden path right next to the plants that border it, you create a beautiful lighted path effect that not only lights up where you want to go, but also brings a totally novel look To your garden. It can make for a beautiful decorative outdoor lighting scheme.
Downlighting and uplighting effects can make for some pretty awesome results. With a floodlight aimed downwards off the edge off your roof, you can easily light up any dark area of the garden that could perhaps provide an easy hiding spot for intruders. But functional purposes aside, using floodlights for a downlighting effect can help you showcase your entire landscaping with a good bit of general lighting flooded all around.

Uplighting, which is lighting aimed upwards, can make for some pretty dramatic decorative outdoor lighting effects. What is uplighting anyway? You know that game that children like to play where they position a flashlight right under their chins for the scary effect they get? That's uplighting for you right there. What can you achieve with it? Positioning lights aimed upwards under objects that create shadows can make for a pretty surreal outdoor lighting effect.
Outdoor lighting doesn't necessarily have to be bright enough to clearly light things. The whole idea of decorative outdoor lighting is about doing things for the sake of aesthetics and not function. They make moonlights to place around the garden for just such a need. As you can imagine, moonlights offer subdued lighting of the kind that would recall regular moonlight to mind. Usually, they attach these somewhere high up in the trees. With the light coming in through hundreds of leaves, you're left with a really beautiful moonbeam effect.

Deck lighting to use on a balustrade certainly provides safety for functional purposes. But deck lights are so tiny that they create a starry fairylight effect. It can make for a particularly cheerful outdoors in your compound.

Home Fire Safety Practices - Tips to Avoid the Harmful Effects of Fire to You & Your Family

Fire is very important for us. Without it, we cannot survive. It is also like water, which is a vital element for our living. For our ordinary lives, it takes part by helping us cook our food. Your culinary dishes, homemade delicacies and other luscious food are made possible with the help of controlled fire. It is also one forms of our entertainment. Another of its wonders is by providing light. At night, when everyone decides to party on the beach line, bonfires beautifully illuminates the whole place. Thus making the whole event warm and inviting.

As you can see, these are just few of the uses of fire in our lives. However, despite its many uses, its beauty and qualities when untamed can cause fatalities, injuries and destructions to anyone or anything that it comes in contact with. As of the year 2007, 414,000 homes have been burned; 2,895 lives have been taken away; and 14,000 people have been injured because of it (this is according to USFA statistics). Imagine the tragedy it can bring to all of us if we do not use it cautiously.

That is why it is important for us to ensure fire safety at all times. No matter what kind of fire it is, even if it may seem harmless, we need to take measures in order to prevent the worse from happening. Here are some of the tips you can observe in your homes daily.
1.When you are cooking, keep an eye on your food, especially when you are using high heat. Do not use loose clothing, especially when you are cooking on an open fire. Avoid putting your mittens, hand towels, paper towels and plastics near the gas range or even the burner. Do not grill food or use open flames for grilling in places where there are branches or dried leaves.
2.Fireplaces should be well protected by using metal mesh screens. As much as possible, ensure that it is built with durable and fire-resistant materials. It is nice to put decorations around it, just make sure that they do not dangle in the opening of the fireplace and they should not be combustible materials. As much as possible, keep them away.

3.Candles can be very therapeutic in homes but it must be used while you are inside the room. Be sure to blow them off before you leave the room or before going to sleep. Keep them away from curtains or stacks of papers. Always place them on their holders rather than putting them directly on a wood furnish.

4.Another crucial fire safety consideration at home is the use of electrical devices. Before you go to sleep or when leaving the house, do not put your televisions or players on stand by mode. As much as possible turn them off or unplug them. Always double check heat-giving devices such as irons, portable heaters, blow dryers. Avoid putting them close to combustible materials and do not forget to turn them off or unplug them when no one is at home.

5.If there are smokers in the family, advise them to smoke outside the house. While smoking, provide them ashtrays. Also, tell them to put out the cigar before throwing them. Running it with water is the most effective technique.

Wall Lamps to Enhance the Decor of Your Master Bedroom

People are shifting to smaller residences for either reasons of global recession or something else. When they start living in these small houses, they feel that the master bedroom is not large and needs some kind of decoration. When the talk is on interior decor, lighting plays an important role for illuminating the gloomy areas in your bedroom.

When it's about bedroom, it is the bed which seeks a lot of attraction. There is little space in the bedroom and hence avoid using large furniture. Floating shelves or side tables can be used along with wall lamps swinging freely above them. An electrician is the best person to fit these. Another important factor when using these wall lamps is to make sure that their size matches with other things in the bedroom.

The preference should be given to monochromatic colors for smaller bedrooms. Using lighter shades would be more appropriate. The furniture in smaller bedrooms are expected to be of more use. Like in the case of a dresser, the same can be used for makeup and also as nightstand.

Maximizing the closet's efficiency is another thing to keep in mind when having a smaller bedroom. A typical closet is flexible enough to store clothes or shoes. The room's color and the closet's color needs to match. For lighting up one can also opt for wall sconces.
It would be nice to have a small place to sit down near a window. The chair should not be too large. And you can also have a small bench or table for enjoying your early morning coffee. Wall sconce would look good in such places. In general, swinging wall lamps suit the decor of smaller master bedrooms. Pot lights are another choice which one can opt for occasional usage. Curtain Valances in the Decorating World

There are terms that are used in the decorating world that leave one wondering if the designer has a firm handle on things. How many regular people have ever heard of a hanging swag, or would know instantly what a finial is used for. Yet these are real words used to describe different items that are regularly hung as decorative accessories on everyday window treatments. One that is often misunderstood is the window valance.

Yet it is a staple in window coverings that decorators use to enhance the look of a variety of different types and styles of room decors.
Swags are considered very similar to valance curtains but are hung in a way to offer window treatments differing effects. Valances for windows are hung straight across the top of the curtain rail while the swag is a much longer piece of material and is hung in such a way that it drapes down on the sides as well. You might pair them with panels of different lengths to achieve several intriguing looks. Another phrase that may leave you feeling that you're left out in the cold is the scarf.
This does not mean the one grandma sent you for those winter sledding trips, rather it is a piece of fabric that is draped artistically over the window. It is more free-flowing than the typical valance and is often hung in a more casual variety of forms and materials. Each of these methods of window enhancement has their place in the ever more advancing world of interior design. It really is up to the decorator to decide which one makes the cut and which is inappropriate to the situation. The nice aspect of valance window treatments over swag is that it fits neatly into more room themes. Contemporary, retro, and Victorian can all be enhanced with these style choices.

The weight of the curtain fabric, colors, and prints will make a huge change to a room. Matching the throw pillows to the window treatment is a standard technique that ties it all in together. This can also be done by covering the tables with corresponding colors. It is as varied as it seems. And it all began with what you put on your windows.

Learning what is what, as you start to decorate your home, will get easier with exposure to the terms that are out there. Magazines, decorating shows, and on-line video clips will make this learning curve faster. Remembering them all will come quicker if you write them down. Keep in mind, the one found to go well with most curtain designs still seems to be the valance and you can mix and match for your perfect room.

The Decoration of the Large Bathroom

How are we going to decorate a large and spacious bathroom, in attempt to make it something of a masterpiece? In modern houses, the bathroom is more and more frequently becoming something more than a place to wash - it's becoming an actual room, as much a part of the house as a bedroom or a living room. If you are one of those lucky owners of a large, spacious bathroom, you are presented with a wild variety of options in its decoration.

The design of any living space should always start from the technical side - the installation of required pipes and wiring. Before we start the new bathroom installation works, it is necessary to plan out details such as the position of the actual bath, sink, toilet etc. Decoration and installation a large bathroom suite is much easier than doing the same to a smaller one. A modern technique in decorating bathrooms is to divide it into sections. For example, you may raise the bath on a small ledge (to let the pipes through), and then separate it from the toilet with a screen.

When you have chosen a specific plan, you will have to choose the colours. Many bathroom designers are convinced that the base colours that must be present within a bathroom are a combination of grey, white and blue. However, it is not necessary to keep to these guidelines when trying to achieve a nice effect. Try and imagine what kind of environment you would feel most comfortable when choosing colours. Remember, each colour has its own influence, with a light blue being relaxing, reds being energizing, and so on.

As you pick a colour scheme, you also set yourself a designated choice of materials. You'll have to pick your materials very, very carefully as to make sure they suite your overall bathroom design. Take into account the variety of tiles, natural stone, wood panelling, glass mosaic, and so on. Try and make them fit with your overall colour scheme.

However, each material has its disadvantages, such as, for example, low durability, short life, brittleness and high moisture intake, so always be aware of factors such as these when doing a new bathroom installation works.
Here are a few examples of modern design schemes for bathrooms:

If you like a comfortable, cosy, quiet atmosphere, with natural smells and peace, pick colours such as brown, beige, green, olive and gray - a room like that needs space, and your new bathroom becomes an ideal subject. The walls in such a bathroom are decorated with wood or a natural stone, the floor can be ceramic tiles, and a few rugs under the feet can be a nice twist. Handmade accessories go very nice with the surroundings of such a bath.
If you prefer something more extravagant, then your choice of style is called "Baroque". This style's characteristics are rich, bright colours, expensive accessories, and a lot of art details. The bathtub itself has to be pretty massive, with a distinct, eccentric shape, with bent legs. The walls can be tiled with marble, and have many large mirrors fixed onto them. Paintings and stucco decorations will give your bathroom a noble character. A large amount of aromatic candles, paintings, all types of porcelain statues and figurines can all complete your "Baroque" bathroom.

A pretty widespread modern style is the "Marina" style. In new bathroom, there must be a lot of free space, a minimum amount of furniture and a maximum amount of accessories. When creating a bathroom in this style, you may use some of the most diverse materials - tiles, mosaic, and wood (like the outside of the ship), wallpaper, paints. The main base colour is, obviously, blue, which can be used with whites and other darker shades of blue. For the decorations, you may use a variety of things such as seashells, stones, and other marine related items. A very widely used material for this style is the glass mosaic. An interesting, unusual twist to your bathroom for this style would be a mirror in the shape of a submarine window.

Remember, that all that surrounds you in the bathroom plays an important role in creating the mood. If the accessories are picked with taste and under thought, maintained with a consistent stile and colour scheme, then the new bathroom will look truly elegant and spending time in it will be an actual pleasurable experience.

To Find Childrens Furniture That Contributes to the Decor in Your Child's Room

Parents trying to decorate a child's room often settle for far too simple a color palette - somehow, it's popular to try to turn a child's room out as if it were a cartoon. Parents like to color everything in primary shades. Is that really necessary though? When you pick childrens furniture to set out your child's room, you want to go with a sophisticated selection of colors - typically, something that an adult would appreciate, not just a child who's addicted to cartoons. Even if you do like the primary colors, consider swapping primary blue for a kind soft blue and bright pink for a rosier shade could make for an interesting variation. If you want to design a room that a child might like to keep for a while, you need especially to design a number of color combinations in the room that won't bore you child (or you), quickly.

People don't tend to think of furniture as decor for a room. It really can be that though. Consider the effect that bedding in your child's room can have on the overall decor. The bed is a large surface that can hold a sheet, a duvet and a pillow - all things that can contribute to the decor of the room. Geometric patterns for instance, feel contemporary; cute florals or Disney characters can lend a distinct air of innocence. Choosing childrens furniture, you should probably go with quality stuff that will last for decades. Not that your child will be using them for that long; it's just that children take strength from the solidness of the things around them in their room. Since your child probably has a lot of stuff - toys, books, clothing and so on, a beautiful armoire should be an important part of your shopping list too.

How does one classify a rocking chair? Is it supposed to be childrens furniture or is it a toy? Either way, parents seem a little reluctant to buy one of these today. They just don't seem to go well with the kind of decor parents have in mind for their children's rooms. But there are all kinds of new interpretations of the basic rocking chair design that might well catch your fancy if you would look. Any parent is usually worried about spending a great deal on children's furniture. They worry that their children will outgrow their furniture really quickly. You can easily buy furniture that is designed to adapt to a growing child - you could buy a crib in fact, that expands to a bed for instance, or a cupboard that turns into a desk. You could also keep in mind that furniture for children doesn't really have to be purpose-built. If you have a spare coffee table elsewhere in the house that hasn't seen much use, you can easily bring it into your child's room to serve as a kind of work surface or a place to display your child's works of art.

When you buy anything to furnish your child's room with, make sure that you take your child along with you for the trip. This way, your child will feel a sense of ownership and permanence in a way that can bepsychological asset. And finally, before you actually make a choice, make sure that you consider durability over simple attractiveness. Furniture only looks beautiful so long as it stays together solidly in one piece. Go with quality as your first consideration. Nothing spells attractiveness as much as quality in furniture.

How to Remove Wallpaper the Cost Effective Way on Plastered Concrete Walls

What you need

You will need a bucket, washing up liquid, a wide paintbrush, some floor covers, plastic bags, a scraper and a lot of hot water.

Prepare the room from water splashes

Move items away from the walls, especially electrical items and of course the pictures. Electrical sockets and light switches may need to be taped up for safety to stop water from getting to the electric wires. Lay your floor covers down next to the walls. If you have plastic sheets put them down first, then the cloth covers on top of them. This will stop the water from running off the plastic sheets onto the carpeting.

Apply the solution

Now that you have the room ready for wallpaper striping, there is one last thing to do just before applying the solution. You should remove the top layer of wallpaper. Some types of wallpaper have a plastic or vinyl top layer that water will not penetrate. To peel off the top layer, grab the bottom corner of a strip of wallpaper and gently peel it off. Peel the top layer off in a diagonal direction. If you are gentle and pull slowly, you can peel off a whole strip in one piece. Now you are ready to apply the solution. Put some hot water in a bucket with a good squirt of washing up liquid. Dishwashing liquid is a degreaser, it softens the wallpaper paste. Dip the paintbrush in the solution. In order not to get your room soaked, touch the paintbrush on the inside of the bucket to squeeze out the dripping excess water. You will have enough water on the paintbrush to soak the wallpaper. This will keep the splashing to a minimum. Hold the paintbrush with the bristles down, this will keep the water on the wall and allow it to run down the wall instead of down your arm on to the floor. You will be surprised how much water the paper absorbs. Do one section then do it again in about five minutes. Then go back again and do the first section then check to see if the paper peels off easily, if not, soak it again.

Remove the wallpaper

If the paper rips off in pieces, you need to soak it again. This will be when you need to use a scraper. When the paper peels off as easy as a sheet of wet writing paper, you have the paper soaked enough. The better you get, the less you will need to use the scraper and the less you use the scraper, the less damage to the walls. The water has to penetrate though the wallpaper and soak the paste next to the wall. Let the water and dishwashing liquid do the work not the scraper.

Clean up

There is no clean up. Clean as you go. Remember there is still paste on the paper and when the paper becomes dry, you have to remove it again. So boil, soak, peel and bag it as you go.

Now you have walls ready for decoration

Just let the walls dry for a little while. There will be a glossy shine from the small amount of glue left on the walls. This is no problem when it comes to decorating. You can always apply a wall sealer before you wallpaper again.

Using Art for the Decorating Styles Around the Home

When it comes to adding extra touches to the home, there are so many accessories and other things that can really make a difference. One great way to add that extra class and to make the use out of open space on walls is by adding pictures and art work.

Not only does it add personality to the room but it can also help to brighten the room up as well. You could even use them in every room in the house as there is such a massive range to choose from. So, if you have a certain color scheme in the kitchen, you will find some that will suit the kitchen perfectly so it is just a matter of personal taste. Some will prefer to have printed pictures whilst others prefer proper artwork with watercolours, pastels or any other artwork.

Placing the Pictures to Style the Room
If you bought quite a few different pictures and paintings you may want to use some of them in the same room. If this is the case, you need to carefully plan where you want to put them. By rearranging them and placing them correctly it can make a big difference to the room. If they are not balanced or if they are just placed anywhere it can make the room look untidy and give out an undesired effect.

The first thing that you should consider is that if you are buying for every room, take a look at the room and see what you think will go best. What might work in one room may not work in another or it may not go with the color scheme or the feel of the room.

Choosing the right picture can make the world of difference to the room. Great artwork can make a dull room look colorful and give it charisma. Also by having a nice picture, it can also improve the mood of the atmosphere too. Before you buy a painting though you should stick to a budget, otherwise you could end up spending a lot of money on one that you like. Proper paintings range in price and they can cost a lot of money so it is always best to have a budget and stick to it.

So as you can see paintings and printed pictures really can brighten up the house but they need to be positioned correctly. There is more to it than just buying paintings so much sure that you take your time when it comes to putting them up on the wall. With that extra bit of effort you can really enjoy it to its fullest potential and make the room look amazing.

Positive Features of the Decorative Concrete Driveways

A concrete driveway offers a perfect alternative to the asphalt-based surface. Much like asphalt, a plain concrete driveway isn't that appealing to the eye. A concrete drive is typically grey while an asphalt drive is often black. If any homeowner wishes to move away from these plain colors, the option is there to use decorative concrete driveways. A decorative surface can be stained, painted, textured or given an intricate pattern. Also, in the same way as any concrete driveway, this surface will be highly durable and cost-effective. A decorative drive is effective at increasing the kerb appeal of property while also increasing the potential marketable value of a property.

A main benefit to the concrete based driveway is its long-term durability. Concrete is typically made up of sand, rock, cement and water. A ready mixed supply might even come with a range of waste by-products. A well laid concrete drive or pathway has the potential to last up to 25 years if maintained to a high standard. This surface material is also highly resilient and can be installed in either harsh or mild climates without needing to be concerned that it might deteriorate in the short-term.

If you wish to avoid a plain-looking drive, it is possible to create a unique look by having the concrete stamped in such a way that it effectively emulates other materials. Providing that this practice is done to a professional standard, the result could see a drive looking much like slate, tile, brick, stone or flagstone. Creating an elaborate design will of course increase the installation cost, but you will certainly be left a high quality and appealing driveway.
An alternative option to improve the appearance can be to add pebbles into the top layer of the still wet cement. This will leave the pebbles partly exposed which give a quite appealing dimensional effect. Patterns might also be included by saw cutting the uppermost layer of the cement, which can allow you to create any design of your choosing.

Color is another option to increase the appearance of a driveway at the front of a property. A color is either dusted or mixed in to the basic cement to make sure an even consistency is created. Common colors often include cobblestone, tile red, terracotta, gold, and taupe. Adding in the color is such a simple and straightforward process, and is now becoming a very common practice.

Tribal Rugs - Both Decoration and Art

The art of creating Tribal rugs, and carpet weaving is older than civilization. Some studies claim that that the practice may be at least 3500 years old. Rug weaving appears to have been used not only as a function, but also as a means of representing the culture, and creative expression of a particular region. The oldest rug was discovered in the Altai Mountains of Siberia in 1949. It was found at the burial site of a Prince inside the Pazarik Valley, where it apparently had been frozen for more than 2500 years! The Pazyrk Carpet as it is now known is on display in St. Petersburg.

Tribal rugs are vastly different from Oriental rugs that are produced to represent the city. Nomads are constantly moving, and weaving rugs is one of their principal occupations. The looms with which the rugs are woven are easy to transport, and the skill is passed onto generations. The styles that they use can be a reflection of several customs or desires, such as good health, the desire to have a child, fertility, and prosperity.
The number of colors used may also be limited, as most of the coloring material is derived from plant based substances.
Weaving is taught to the young at a very tender age, and the type of weave that they are taught is determined by the location and heritage of the tribe. Many of the designs were actually committed to memory. A fascinating fact, is that although many of the weavers are no longer nomads, the rugs they create, still display many of the ancient designs that have been woven for several generations.

Tribal rugs are generally hand woven and made with organic raw materials. The very intricate designs will normally feature between 80-100 Knots Per Square inch, with mostly geometric shapes. The tribes in Iranian near Hamedan, Central Iran or Shiraz, can also feature smaller rugs with heavy floral patterns, foliage or vases. You can also find some exceptional wavers in the regions of Caucasian and Turkoman. Much of the art of rug weaving has been transferred to machines, however, the culture and rich art of ancient Persia is still reflected in hand woven rugs in areas such as such as Shiraz and Baluch.

Persian rugs from areas such as Tabriz, Nain, Isfahan, and Qum, are recognized for featuring designs blossoms and buds that are supported tendrils and vines. These rugs are normally hand made with naturally occurring raw materials such as dyes. Both Persian materials of either silk and cotton are known to retain their value due to the craftsmanship.

Tribal rugs can be used in a number of different ways. They are ideal for adorning smaller areas, and can enhance the appeal of the bedroom the den, or add a bit of splash to the dining area. You can group several of them together to spice up a larger area, and they are not just for floors and many people have decide to show them off on walls.

Kitchen Reinvention - Decoration Ideas You Can't Miss

We've been living in an old and small house for the last 25 years. While some parts are still okay, others are already dilapidated. So, we decided to rebuild or renovate these sections of the house. Of all the rooms, the kitchen was the most damaged area and we chose to work on it first. As the eldest son of the family, I was asked by my grandparents to take charge of the reconstruction project. I was neither a home enthusiast, nor did I have any experience in this field of work; so it was kind of a new ball game to me.

I went through several websites, books and magazines to look for some handy kitchen renovation ideas. The numerous tips, snaps and advertisements left me puzzled and gasping for breath. Sadly, I couldn't find a single concept that matches steps with our small and simple house. Luckily, my neighbor came to my rescue and provided me with some really useful ideas. Let me share them with you today.

Smaller and packed in gadgets

Today, electrical device manufacturers have come up with innovative space-saving gadgets that make your small room look bigger. Some of these smart kitchen appliances are refrigerators with a depth of 24 inches and microwaves that can be placed below cabinets for saving table space.

Put your pans and pots on display

To get some additional storage area, hang pans and pots is a separate pot stand. Besides providing you with some additional cabinet space, they add a lot of appeal and character to your cooking area. You may also opt for open shelves where you can show off your plates and other utensils.

Play the right light game

No matter how small your cookhouse is, the right kind of lighting can make your space appear bigger and more gratifying.

Create a proper eating niche

Be smart and build an eating space in the kitchen without sacrificing your comfort level. Instead of occupying a large area, make use of a small round counter or a drop table with small chairs that can be folded and kept in a corner.

Go bold yet subtle

Yes, I'm talking about the paint job. When it's kitchen decoration, opt for darker shades of blue, orange and green. To balance the overall look of the space, consider using furnishings in pastel shades of beige, cream and brown. This'll give an elegant yet modern look to your property.

Curtain Fabric As Wall Decoration

While most often thought of as window coverings, curtains are not just for windows. They come in many different materials and designs ideal for many decorating projects and can add color and life to any object or space: use them to hide wall imperfections, dress up furnishings, and create beautiful art pieces.

Framed Art

Designer and vintage curtain fabrics often come in gorgeous/mod/fun patterns and are ideal as framed art. I have several embroidery hoops in different sizes that I used during my cross-stitching days. Instead of leaving them idle in a corner, I used them to frame a floral patterned designer curtain fabric that I wanted on display. This is a very simple idea and basically, you just have to cut out a round of a sturdy material the size of the interior of the hoop to use as backing, find the focal point of the fabric you want to display, attach it to the backing and put it into the hoop.

Canvas Art

You can also use stretcher canvas as your backing. It is readily available at art and craft stores in a variety of sizes. Cut the fabric with a few inches allowance and secure it neatly on the back with a staple gun. Instant wall decor!

Bulletin Board

If you have an old cork board left standing unused, dress it up with your favorite curtain fabric pattern to make it more attractive. Carefully and tightly tack (or staple) the fabric to the back and you are ready to pin photos, notes and your kids' artwork. It is also a wonderful place to post menus and shopping lists.

Headboards

For an easy curtain fabric "headboard", fix a curtain rod (the same width as the bed) several inches above the head of the bed and simply hang your curtain. It adds softness to the room and also gives the illusion of a window behind the bed. For an instant "real" custom headboard, stretch fabric pieces over a large canvas the width of the bed. Pull the fabric taut and staple firmly at the back then put it up behind the bed.

Wall "Stickers"

Make a fabric version of the ever popular wall stickers by cutting out shapes of the fabric (they can be simple, like circles in different sizes, or more complicated, like animal shapes, etc.), apply fabric stiffener (like the appropriately named Stiffen Stuff) to the pieces, let dry and affix to the wall.
These are just a few simple ideas to get you started. Once you start playing with fabric, it's hard to stop! And if you're the type who is handy with a needle and thread (I'm not), the sky is the limit!
